I love this: “Have the years of Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In done such a number on us that we think any career downshifting or pause means that our contribution as a member of society is less than that of a person making an income?”

There is something so upside down about our society that it only (or mostly only) values work that is paid, rather than work that is important.

💯💯 I feel like it’s taken me so long to de-internalize the Lean In message.

One thing I’ve been thinking about recently is that we discuss sharing “care work” frequently. I am 100% for that when it works, but sometimes that isn’t feasible for many reasons. I’d love to hear more discussion about caring for caregivers, which I think this interview hits on well. I wrote a long essay myself on how to better support parents who are trying to reintegrate into the workforce after being at home: https://fairerdisputations.org/protecting-the-home-front-why-we-need-a-g-i-bill-for-homemakers/

I’m looking forward to getting her book next week (is it next week?)—both to read and to write about it! I’ve followed her work for years. Had my first in 2016 as well
